2. What is the difference between the MDAA and MDA and continuing education?

The MDA is regulatory so all credits for continuing education must be documented and kept in your file at the MDA office. The MDAA is member services and provide continuing education opportunities and information.
3. Do my credits carry over to the next cycle?
Answer

No. Any point above the required 36 credits cannot be used in your next 3 year cycle.
4. How do I find out how many credits I have?
Answer

You can go to the MDA website and enter your personal number, which you will find on your registration card, and then you can access your file to see how many points you have earned. Every fall the MDA will send out a letter summarizing your courses and credits. Once you have reached the required 36 credits, the MDA will send a letter letting you know.
5. What if I sent in a letter outlining my course, date and hours, and I have not received credit for it?

Please ensure that you have given the MDA office adequate time to record your credits. If this has been done, please call the MDA at 988-5300 and speak with Rafi or April.
6. Can I take courses in other Provinces or out of the country?
Answer

Yes, if the course is offered by any provincial, national or international dental assisting organization, you can submit your certificates of attendance or a letter from the organization to the MDA.
7. Do I need prior approval for courses?
Answer

If a course is hosted by the MDAA, they have submitted it for approval to the MDA. If you are taking courses on your own or in another province or country, please submit a letter with the information to the MDA office for prior approval.
8. What about lunch and learns?
Answer

Lunch and learns are generally worth 1 credit point. Remember that a presentation on a specific product can only be submitted once in your 3 year cycle. For example, a presentation on toothpaste from company A is acceptable, but then you cannot submit for any other toothpaste lunch and learns.
9. Can you earn Con Ed points by attending staff meetings?
