Continuing Education - Continuing To Grow
Continuing Education (Con-Ed) is an educational system which helps keep a Dental Assistant's skills current, encourages profesional growth and increases their value to their employers and their patients. The Manitoba Dental Association (MDA) has established continuing education requirements for the re-certification of registered dental assistants. As stated in the MDA Bylaws, "The objective of continuing education is to ensure clinical competence, professional responsibility and ethical obligations for every registrant."

Our Association (MDAA) is responsible for seeking out and offering Con-Ed opportunties for Manitoba Dental Assistants. It is the responsibilty of ALL Dental assistants to take advantage of these educational offerings, which is mandated by Bylaw C-07 of the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA). Every Dental Assistant has the responsibility to assess their own performance and to maintain their competence. The Dental Assistant profession has a proud history of providing safe and quality services, and using continuing education to stay current and improve services. A Continuing Education Program is an important component in ensuring that each health care profession is credible, useful and respected within the health care field, and trusted by the public.
The Manitoba Dental Association ..., is mandated to regulate dental assistants in the public interest and is committed to encourage their professional growth and development. This mandate stems from The Dental Association Act and Article 15.1 (2) - Certification of Registration.
To summarize the continuing education program as stated by the MDA:"A dental assistant must obtain a minimum of 36 credit hours during a three-year cycle. Credit hours in excess of those required in a three-year cycle cannot be carried forward to a subsequent three-year cycle."
